Activism Under Totalitarianism

This lecture series delves into the civil society, authoritarian politics, and social movements in Eastern Europe. Masha Gessen and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova (of Pussy Riot) offer an urgent perspective on activism under repressive regimes and how students can become members of international movements for political freedom and personal liberty. In the talks, they focus specifically on the brutality of Russian politics, but their experiences speak to the efforts being waged in numerous regions against illiberalism, intensified homophobia, and endemic corruption.
